The game ended gaoless at the break with super stars like Chijioke Mbaoma and Joseph Atule having their efforts on gaol repelled countless times by the home side until in the second half when subsitute Stephen Chukwude scored with just three minutes after being introduced into the game with his first touch.

Significantly, the forward became the first Enyimba player to score against Heartland since Peter Onyekachi scored the opener in a 1-1 draw in 2016 (Umuahia). He is also the 1st Enyimba player to score against Heartland in Owerri since Markson Ojobo in 2015
