ADEWALE ADYINKA RECORDS THIRD PENALTY SAVE OF THE NPFL SEASON!



Kwara United emerged victorious with a 2-0 win against Gombe United FC during Matchday 10 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin.


Alao Mohammed, back in action, struck a volley in the 37th minute, while Abubakar Garba's precise low shot in the 85th minute secured all three points for the home team. This victory was further cemented by the visitors' missed penalty opportunity in the 53rd minute by Sadiq Shuaibu.

Despite their impressive performance in the previous away game against Bendel Insurance in Matchday Nine, where they secured a point, Kwara United initially faced a determined and resilient Gombe United side. The game evolved into a back-and-forth contest.

Alao Mohammed, absent from the Bendel Insurance match due to injury, capitalized on Kwara United's sole clear chance in the first half, adding pressure on the Northern team.


Following the goal, Gombe United intensified their attack but failed to capitalize until early in the second half when a penalty was awarded against Kwara United. However, goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka's exceptional save maintained his team's position in the game and earned him the Man of the Match Award.

Substitutions, including Shola AbdulRaheem, Issa Gata, and later Abubakar Garba, boosted Kwara United's performance. Garba, a Kwara Football Academy graduate, furthered the home team's lead in the 85th minute with a skillful strike using his weaker left foot.

Towards the end, substitutions involving Ayanrinde Samuel and Bajibir Mohammed aimed to intensify the pressure on Gombe United. 

The Man of the Match Award, accompanied by a cash prize of N20,000, was sponsored by Are Musbau Olalekan Olaniyi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Print Best and the Are Bobajiro of Offa, and was awarded to Adewale Adeyinka. 

The current holder for most clean sheets in the Nigerian Premier Football League proving that his return from injury will surely help propel Kwara United to a higher league finish than last season, bagging a clean sheet and providing the third penalty save of the season in a result that takes the harmony boys to ninth of the Nigerian Premier Football League table with thirteen points ahead of their next game against his former side Akwa United in Eket.
