UCHE COLLINS SCORES ON HIS BIRTHDAY AS AKWA REGISTER WIN IN FIRST NPFL TELEVISED GAME OF THE SEASON



Akwa United showcased an impressive performance during Matchday 9, securing their second victory of the season by triumphing over Remo Stars with a 3-2 score at the Eket Stadium.


Entering the game with just one win in eight matches, the Promise Keepers urgently sought a turnaround. However, they initially fell behind as Sikiru Alimi scored for Remo Stars fifteen minutes into the match.


Yet, Akwa United rallied and responded swiftly. Dare Ojo scored a crucial goal in the 23rd minute, heading in Bala Akintunde’s corner delivery past Remo Stars' goalkeeper Charles Tambe. Within three minutes, Uche Collins fired a magnificent shot from outside the box, giving the Promise Keepers a well-deserved lead as they headed into halftime on his birthday while scoring his first league goal of the season

This substitution proved fruitful as Akwa United extended their lead in the 62nd minute. Bala Akintunde delivered a right-footed cross from the right, setting up Rilwan Sadiq for a close-range volley and further bolstering the home side's advantage.

Although former Akwa United winger Aniekeme Okon narrowed the deficit for Remo Stars with a late goal, their attempts to equalize were thwarted by Akwa United's well-coordinated defense.


As a result, Akwa United now holds a dominant head-to-head record against Remo Stars, boasting six wins, one draw, and one defeat in eight encounters. With two victories and three draws in their five home games this season, the Promise Keepers will head to Kaduna for their next fixture against Niger Tornadoes on Matchday 10 sitting 17th on table.
