The match up was Roman Reigns' first singles competition since defeating Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania in April in Hollywood. The head of the table put everything on the line including his position as the"tribal chief" should he had lost later that night in the main event setting it up for a much anticipated event in the biggest party of the summer.

However, as is the case most times during Roman Reigns' title defences over the past three years the fight was interrupted, firstly by his other cousin and enforcer Solo Sikoa and later by the surprise return of Jimmy Uso to aid Reigns in retaining the belt via a spear to the challenger Jey after tables chairs and kendo sticks had been used by both competitors - all happenings legal as well because in the stipulation earlier stated, a traditional Samoan tribal rules match is also a no disqualification match.
