Moses Effiong convinced Akwa United are title challengers after Enyimba win.

Akwa United once again on Sunday submitted their title winning credentials to the forefront of the Nigerian Premier Football League and its followers with a commanding 1-0 win at home over record champions Enyimba International.

The game looked to be starved of goal mouth action from the home team especially from the absence of attacking threat Moses Effiong as Enyimba kept on pushing, not until Uche Collins struck home from a James Ajako cross late in the second half to put the Promise Keepers four points behind unbeaten runaway group A leaders Bendel Insurance

However, the last time Akwa United did defeat Enyimba at the Nest of Champions was just two years when they won the NPFL title and Moses Effiong is convinced that the team under manager Ayodeji Ayeni have what it takes to rekindle the magic of 2021 and against all odds challenge for a second league crown via the Super Six if they stay in second place for the remainder of the six games in the regular season.

"This is a fantastic team like I've always said and everyone in this camp is only here on merit as you know." Effiong disclosed in an interview with 02Sport Football.

"Not anyone can beat Enyimba. Not anyone can perform the way the boys did this evening and this alone assures me that we are in for much more than the media or fans think this season. We've picked up from the opening day disaster and we will make them proud"- he added.

After the 1-0 win against the People's Elephants to extend their winning run at home to five which turns out to be the best in the division, the Ayodeji Ayeni tutored side now take their eight match unbeaten run in all competitions and look to complete a double over Nassarawa United when the solid miners come visiting a week after Palm Sunday as they currently sit second on the log with 22 points from 12 games.
