CHELSEA COMEBACK TO BEAT BROUSSIA DORTMUND AND QUALIFY FOR UCL QUARTER FINALS

Chelsea Football Club on Tuesday evening defeated German Giants Broussia Dortmund to advance to the last eight of the UEFA Champions League 2022/2023 season on aggregate by 2-1.

The blues lead in the first half after a precise rebound strike from Englishman Raheem Sterling who took his Champions League goal tally to 27 goals, just three shy of Wayne Rooney's English record for Manchester United before heading into the half time break tied 1-1 on the aggregate despite leading 1-0 on the night.

When the hosts reemerged from the tunnels they wasted no time announcing their attacking intent when Ben Chillwell's intended cross deflected off the hands of Marius Wolf in the penalty area and after consulting the VAR a penalty was awarded which new penalty taker Kai Harvertz who initially missed but scored when he was asked to relate score on second night

 

The blues advanced into last eight of UEFA Champions League League after they cameback from a 0-1 loss at the Signal Iduna park and the victory sees Dortmund loose their first game in 2023 especially after their 11 match winning streak.

Borussia Dortmund were the most in-form side in Europe's top 5 leagues before they came to Stamford Bridge. They won 11 straight competitive matches prior to today. Chelsea handed them their first loss of 2023 and held them scoreless for the first time in nearly 4 months.

Elsewhere on the night, Benfica hammered Club Brugge 5-1 on the night and 7-1 on aggregate as well to cap of a perfect evening even without former midfielder and current Chelsea star, World Cup winner Enzo Fernández

Chelsea now wait for the winners of the other quarter final ties to decide which team they face in the UCL Quarter Finals as they have progressed into the last eight for the third consecutive season in a row becoming the joint highest team with knockout comebacks in the UCL in the second leg (5) tied with the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
