The encounter kicked off with both teams displaying great determination, but it was Akwa United who took the lead in the 34th minute. New signing Anthony Chwukwu Ebuka capitalized on James Ajako's precise corner kick delivery, skillfully heading the ball into the Yobe net. Despite our best efforts to defend, Akwa United extended their lead just before halftime. Cyril Olisema unleashed a magnificent strike that found the back of the net, leaving us trailing by two goals at the break.

Undeterred by the scoreline, Yobe Desert Stars came out after the interval with renewed energy and fought valiantly to mount a comeback. However, our hopes were momentarily dashed when Akwa United was awarded a penalty after Salomon Chigoziem was brought down inside our box. Cyril Olisema stepped up to take the spot-kick, but our resilient goalkeeper, Isa Ismail, produced a remarkable save, denying them a third goal.

In a twist of fate, we managed to pull one back and reduce the deficit. Emmanuel James expertly executed a low free kick that evaded everyone, nestling into Akwa United's net, injecting a ray of hope into the northern side.
