FIFA U20 WC: ITALY 0-2 NIGERIA | FLYING EAGLES ADVANCE INTO NEXT ROUND

 



The Nigerian Under 20 Men's National football team also known as the flying eagles yesterday defeated the Italian Under 20 Men's National football team in at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza, Argentina by 2-0 to qualify for the Round of 16 automatically with a game to spare.

Both Italian and Nigerian teams headed into the game off the back of a 3-2 win over Brazil and 2-1 win over Dominican Republic in their opening group games respectively and were assured of qualification into the next round with a game to spare if they picked up three points from the fixture was set to kick off by 7pm Nigerian time.


Italy, who had defeated South American U20 Champions Brazil in the first game were huge favorites to get the better of their African counterparts who had at the earlier conducted African U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.

However it was the Nigerians who went ahead in the 61st minute of the game courtesy of a goal from Salem Fago and held on to that goal until the fourth minute of the eight additional in the second half where goalkeeper Aniagboso's long clearance met the feet of who buried the win for Ladan Bosso's boys sending them to the top of the group as well against all odds.

Nigeria's next game will be played on the 27th of May, Children's day at the Estadio Unico Diego Armando Maradona in La Plata against Brazil who scored six goals against Dominican Republic in the other group game that went down. Although the game will be considered as a mere formality for the already qualified Nigeria - It will be a fixture to anticipate as well which will go down by 4PM Nigerian time.
