NPFL MATCH WEEK 13 REVIEW: TOP TEN PLAYERS FROM THE WEEKEND








The Nigerian Premier Football League is blessed talents swinging in and out season after season with some here to stay, but for this season the leaqgue of talents has been cooking something special especially with the last matchweek which the big guns came out firing.

1. DAVID ONOVO - (SUNSHINE STARS)


  

With two assists to his name already this season, David Onovo completed ninety minutes for Sunshine Stars under Edith Agoye.

For the former Akwa United forward created four chances and won key duels for his team in offensive play but couldn't inspire them to a home win despite his individual brilliance.

The Akure Gunners now pack their bags and head east of the south to tackle Abia Warriors but remain unbeaten in four games sitting fifth on the log with eighteen points.

2. UCHE COLLINS - (AKWA UNITED)                                                                                                  


Uche Collins played over 80 minutes of Akwa United's 2-2 draw against Nassarawa United and was very useful in the managers tactical approach to the fixture.

Although the goal poacher couldn't add to his five goals in all competitions for the Promise Keepers this season, his runs deep into the opposition was textbook number nine efficiency which saw him open up spaces for his attacking colleagues especially the likes of Cyril Olisema who could operate freely in space offensively when the center backs were on the heels of the marksman.

3. JAMES AJAKO (AKWA UNITED)                                                                                                             

The name James Ajako is no stranger to defensive and offensive performances this season already as a young left back.

With two goals and three assists with six clean sheets to his credit, Ajako had the third best rating for player on the pitch when Akwa United locked horns with the solid miners of Nassarawa United.

In what looked relatively less in terms of outline to his average of brilliant season so far inwhich he later confirmed confessing his dissapoitment on the outcome: Ajako managed a pass accuracy of 80%, won 7/10 duels and completed 28/35 passes as per NPFL TransferMarket.




4. CHUKWUEMEKA OBIOMA


Chukwuemeka Obioma's best goal scoring season came with Abia Warriors in 2021. He bagged 11 for the Umahia oufit and later moved to giants Enyimba but waited two years for the sublime season he's having.

He scored again against Plateau United on Sunday in the 53rd minute to wrap up the win for Enyimba International. Its now 10 goals in 13 league games with the club sitting pretty in third on the log with 21 points.

That's just six shy of Victor Mboma's tally of 16 in 34 games last season for the people's elephants and he already leads the golden boot race ahead of Robert Mizo of Bayelsa United.

 5. ROBERT MIZO (BAYELSA UNITED)



Robert Mizo continues to shine for Bayelsa United with an away win coming against El Kanemi warriors last Sunday.

The striker scored the equalizer in 36th minute to help secure the points for the yenogoa outfit and take his goal tally to nine for the season.

Further impressive is the fact that he hasn't scored any from a penalty, Mizo a goal behind top sorry Chukwuemeka Obioma on ten goals. 

6. CYRIL OLISEMA (AKWA UNITED)


The skills and physique of 2019 NPFL midfielder of the year Cyril Olisema adds to the fantastic games Akwa United have had this season. 

Olisema scored in the 29th minute with an amazing shot just 34 seconds after Nassarawa United had gone in front with am amazing shot of their own from a free kick from Victor Collins.

Its his sixth in all competitons which makes him the club's top scorer as he has gotten five in the NPFL so far with four assists in all competitons.


7. DELE AIYENUGBA - (KWARA UNITED)



Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Bamidele Aiyenugba was at his very best on Sunday evening at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, deputixing for inhured Adewale Adeyinka as homers Bendel Insurance forced Kwara United Football Club to a one-all draw in the Matchday 13 of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Salihu Adamu and Abubakar Garba were brought in to replace Anthony Omaka and Paul Samson respectively in the 79th minute in trying to beat the shot stopper, but that did a little in warding off the constant menacing moves by Bendel Insurance, who found it difficult beating Aiyenugba for the second time.


Aiyenugba, 39 made series of saved to keep out the Benin Arsenal and won himself the Kwara United man of the match despite concedimg the equalizer to Deputy Echeta of Bendel Insurance.

8. JOSEPH ATULE - (LOBI STARS)


Two first-half goals from the duo of Abba Umar and Joseph Atule helped Lobi Stars FC to demolish visiting Abia Warriors FC 2-0 in their week 13 fixture played on Sunday at the New Jos Township Stadium to consolidate on their leadership of Group B table.

Elijah Ani released Atule on goal with a penetrative pass that caught the visitor's defence napping and the former Kastina United man placed the ball beyond the onrushing Warriors’ keeper to double the lead before halftime for his fifth of the season.

Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Media and Publicity, Mr. Terver as well rewarded Joseph Atule as the Star of the Week 13 match between Lobi Stars and Abia Warriors.

Atule before emerging as the Star of the Match assisted Umar Abba in the opening goal before scoring the second goal of the match as Lobi Stars won the encounter 2-0. 
He had recorded seven goal attempts, five shots on target and five successful dribbles.

9. VICTOR SOCHIMA - (RIVERS UNITED)

Severally Victor Sochima was called to action and the Super Eagles goalie stood firm behind the sticks making some eye-catching saves to deny the hosts from going in front.

A solid perfomance earning him the man of the match award and his second NPFL clean sheet of the season after an impressive showing away at Niger Tornadoes.

10. YUSUF IBRAHIM - (SUNSHINE STARS)


Yusuf Ibrahim also known as the animal striker bagged his third of the season and his second against Rangers as he scored in the return leg in Awka months ago.

He scored the only goal for sunshine that meant  they remain unbeaten in four games sitting fifth on the log with eighteen points.
