Earlier today, Kwara United secured a narrow victory over resilient Bayelsa United with a solitary goal in the ongoing 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 25 clash at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin.
The decisive goal in this intense and strategic encounter came from Alao Mohammed, who, fresh from injury, found the net in the 15th minute.
Following Mohammed's strike, Bayelsa United took control, dominating the midfield as Kwara United battled to contain their advances.
Subsequent substitutions by Kwara United, introducing Shola Abdulraheem and Godwin Oshagbemi for Issa Gata and Dehinde Ibrahim respectively, bolstered their performance, pressuring Bayelsa United and forcing saves from goalkeeper Elkanah Godgift.
Despite further substitutions by both sides, including Abubakar Garba replacing Alalade Wasiu and Victor Olaoye coming on for Alao Mohammed, Kwara United couldn't capitalize on numerous chances created.
Bayelsa United's introduction of Ori Elvis and Wisdom Magbisa intensified the challenge for Kwara United, who had to defend their lead rigorously to secure all three points.
In addition to the thrilling match, Thankgod Ikeagwu, who started and played the full duration, exhibited his trademark strength and prowess in the midfield for Kwara United. Remarkably, he hasn't missed a single minute since his return, showcasing his enduring impact on the team's performance.
"I feel good and excited helping the team win the win. We are very happy as team and look forward to more games like this together" — Thankgod said in a post match interview with NPFL TransferMarket
As Kwara United bask in the glory of their victory, it's worth noting their current standing in the league. Positioned 15th on the table, they have amassed 29 points from 24 games. Their next challenge awaits as they prepare to travel to face Sporting Lagos.
