MBAOMA | CHILEKWU SOLID AS ENYIMBA KNOCK NPFL CHAMPIONS RIVERS UNITED OUT OF FA CUP

 


Enyimba International edged out Rivers United yesterday in the Nigeria cup to send the pride of Rivers out of two competitions n the space of five days.

Enyimba FC triumphed 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the Federation's Cup Round of 64 on Thursday which was a rescheduled fixture from last week's ties.

The game decided at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo did live up to its pre match billing as both teams came close to a winner several times in the game, but in the end penalties were needed to find a winner.

Rivers United quartet of Ebube Duru, Morice Chukwu, Ukeme Williams and Denis Ndasi all found the net from 12 yards, but Farouk Mohammed missed his kick, and it proved decisive as Enyimba had all spotkicks converted especially the decisive one by Chijioke Mbaoma.




The people's elephants now move into the round of 32 and will play Plateau United next. A prediction which was earlier made by striker Chijioke Mbaoma in April.

Elsewhere in the team, the defense was looking ever so so solid with Finidi George hanging a first start to summer acquisition Chigozie Chilekwu who had earlier indicated in April the trust he had in his manager for game time despite not starting a single league game.
