Former Nigerian Super Eagles sensation and attacking midfielder
seven times Nigerian Best player of the year Austin Azuka "Jay Jay" Okocha had shared his experience three years ago in the heat of the fight against racism in European football, an experience, which has recently resurfaced its face on the media and grabbed the attention of Nigerians and Africans as a whole once again.
Okocha had played in Germany for a total of two clubs, Broussia Neukirchen and Eintracht Frankfurt in the space of six years (1990-1996) before moving to Paris Saint Germain and was once the winner for the goal of the year in Germany in 1993 winning two trophies there as well.
However, the unfortunate side to his short lived success was the increasing rate of racism then which was becoming too much. In an interview in 2019, Jay Jay admitted that the racism in Germany was too much and the only way he could repay them was to dribble them till they ate grass.
"When i first moved to Europe it was Germany i went to. The rate of racism was too high there. I never knew i was black until i got to Germany. So what could i do to show that i was also a racism, I started dribbling them.
I dribble them sotey some people go chop grass."
The two time BBC African footballer of the year was mostly known for his amazing skills and dribbles as Nigeria awaits to see if the national team might someday have another talented player as he was in the team.
